Central Tool Room, Ludhiana
Central Tool Room, Ludhiana was established by Government of India in technical collaboration with Government of Federal Republic of Germany and with active support of Government of Punjab for providing the services in the area of toolings (Tool Design and Tool Manufacture), Precision Machining, Heat Treatment, Technical Training and Technical Consultancy to Small Scale Industries so as to improve the quality and productivity of such units.
Activities
Tool Design, Tool Manufacturing and Consultancy Services etc.
Various types of press tools, plastic moulding tools, die casting dies, jigs, fixture gauges etc. are being designed and developed on the basis of requirement of the industries. The gross turn over per year is of the order of Rs. 2 crores. Services are provided to the industry on ‘NO PROFIT basis. Preference is given to Small Scale Industries while providing the services by the tool room. 20% concession is also being provided to the registered small scale industries. More than 300 units are benefited every year by the services provided by the Centre.

Technical Training
The tool room is conducting the following training courses:-
The Tool Room conducts four year Diploma course in Tool & Die Making with an intake of 40 trainees per year. The Course is recognised by AICTE and Punjab State Board of Technical Education, which conducts the Joint Entrance Examination for admission to the course. The Diploma course is highly practical oriented and most sought after course. The passed out trainees get immediate absorption in the industry.
CTR conducts 2 year certificate training course in Heat Treatment in which 6 trainees are trained every year.
About 7 trainees are trained every year in various fields of Machinists, fitter, turner etc. The duration of the course is 1 year.
The Tool Room is conducting short-term refresher courses on various aspects of Tool Engineering, Tool Designing, Heat Treatment Engineering, Measurement, Production Planning and Cost Estimation, cutting Speeds and Feeds etc.
Training to I.T.I. passed trainees as required under apprenticeship Act is provided in the Centre.
R&D Activities
Central Tool Room Ludhiana has developed several Dies and Moulds for small scale industries against import substitution at a much lower cost than what they were paying for importing such tools thereby saving valuable foreign exchange for the country.
