With a view to up-grade the Hand Tool Technology in the country and to provide the necessary technology support services, the Govt. of India has set up the Central Institute of Hand Tools as a national Institute at Jalandhar in the State of Punjab as an autonomous organisation with the assistance of U.N.I.D.O. in the year 1983.

AIMS & OBJECTIVES

• Technology support services such as improved design of Hand Tools.
• New designs of tools presently not manufactured by the industries.
• Prototype development.
• Appropriate manufacturing processes.
• Common facilities services for manufacture of forging dies, tools, jigs and fixtures.
• Identification of proper materials and standardisation of hand tools.
• Assistance to the small-scale industries for marketing in domestic and overseas market in association with the Central and State Level agencies.
• To train personnel for the industry to adopt improved technology in product design, production techniques, testing & quality control techniques, packing and product development.
• A technical Library-cum-Documentation Centre for rendering services to the industry.
