PRODUCT-CUM-PROCESS DEVELOPMENT CENTRES (PPDCs)

There are six PPDCs functioning at present. These are:-

1. MSME-Technology Development Centre (formerly-FFDC), Kannauj (UP)

2. MSME-Technology Development Centre  (formerly-CDGI), Firozabad (UP)

3. MSME-Technology Development Centre,(formerly-PPDC) Meerut(UP)

4. MSME-Technology Development Centre, (formerly-PPDC) Agra, (UP)

5. MSME-Technology Development Centre (formerly-ESTC), Ramnagar, Nainital (UP)

6.MSME-Technology Development Centre  (formerly-IDEMI), Mumbai (Maharashtra)

These PPDC serve the industry through:

  • Research and development in areas of dense industry cluster.
  • Product Design and Innovation

  • Product and Process improvement and development of improved Packaging Techniques.

  • Common Facility Centre.

  • Manpower Development/Training.

SITARC PUMP INSTITUTE (PPDC)

Sitarc Pump Institute a non Govt. organisation has been set up at Coimbatore with assistance from UNDP, Govt. of India and Govt. of Tamil Nadu. It is a four year project started in 1995. The development objectives of the project is to upgrade the technology of irrigation pump sets and prime movers manufactured by small scale industry in India with a (i) Achieving optimum levels of efficiency (ii) conserving scarce energy resources in exploiting ground water for irrigation and (iii) facilitating the development of a competitive small scale sector. Capabilities of the Small Industries Testing and Research Centre (Sitarc), Coimbatore an industry owned and managed centre will be enhanced in the areas of training design prototyping, testing, tooling, applied research and consultancy. Govt. of India figures indicate that an overall increase of 10% in energy efficiency of agricultural pumps and motors is likely to yield energy savings of $250 million per year.

National Project Coordinator under overall guidance of Project Steering Committee is running the project. Government of India has fulfilled its obligation of Grants in Aid of Rs. 4.97 crores spread over 4 years.

The project is in a take off stage. Machinery and equipment including testing equipments have been installed. Consultants have been appointed. Training of staff has been arranged under twinning arrangement. The centre is fully equipped to advise small industries to improve quality and productivity and go in for ISO 9000 certification.
