Ozone Depleting Substance Phaseout
Govt. of India is a signatory to the Montreal Protocol and
is committed to phase out Ozone Depletting Substances before 2010.
Ministry of Environment and forests is the Nodal Ministry or implementation
of the Montreal Protocol and Small Industries Development Organisation
has been entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing ODS Phase
Out in small sector. The Multilateral Fund of the Montreal Protocol
provides financial and technical assistance to facilitate ODS
Phase Out by small units in India. Technology Development has
taken place world over for identifying appropriate ODS substitutes
at least cost. While ODS Phase Out is mandatory now, the opportunity
offers potential for switching over from ODS to non ODS latest
technologies commercially adopted in the developed countries which
have already phased out ODS.
The financial assistance for switching over to non ODS based
technologies\processes is offered under the Montreal Protocol
as Grant. It is therefore natural for tight control and procedures
to be in position for availing the grant. Eligible enterprises
have to apply in a prescribed format to avail the Montreal Protocol
Assistance.
