"An office of the Department of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises and Agro and Rural Industries for providing technical inputs for the formulation of policies and programmes, for the promotion and development of small scale industries. Our mission is to support the small scale industries by way of being a provider of services to support SSI growth, and by the management of programmes through our field formations for the benefit of small scale industries."


Our Activities

  • We promote technology and create entrepreneurship in the Small Scale Sector by providing a comprehensive range of extension services through a network of Small Industries Service Institutes (SISIs) and Branch Small Industries Service Institute.
  • We provide common facility services to Small Scale Units and impart training in technical skill development to workers of small scale industrial units on the use of modern technology/machines through common facility workshops attached to our SISIs.
  • We provide marketing support to small scale units by promoting interaction between small and large units and ancillarisation through sub-contract exchanges attached to our SISIs.
  • Our SISIs also render marketing assistance to small scale units through the Single Point Registration Scheme of the National Small Industries Corporation.
  • We extend testing facility through our Regional Testing Centres at New Delhi, Calcutta, Mumbai and Chennai and our Field Testing Centres.
  • PMRY (Prime Minister’s Rozgar Yojna)
  • We monitor and supervise the PMRY scheme to create and provide sustainable self-employment opportunities to educated unemployed youth through micro enterprises.
  • Information and Facilitation Counters for guidance and help have been set up in our field offices as well as headquarters for speedy and easy access of information for the citizens of the concerned State.

  • We will computerise our operations for effective communication and interface with citizens.

Standards of General Performance

  • Your application or letter will continue to be duly acknowledged. We will respond to all of your written enquiries within 15 days.
  • We will forward our report for enlistment with NSIC under Government Purchase Programme within 30 days. After the receipt of duly completed applications, if the applicant is located at SISI Branches or SISI headquarters, the report will be completed within 4 weeks and if the case pertains to an out-station enterprise, the time taken will not exceed 6 weeks.
  • We shall endeavour to provide the time and cost estimates for your job work in our Common Facility Workshops within 24 hours of a request.
  • We will issue the appraisal reports of Project Reports sent to us under paid consultancy services received from Citizens or Banks within 4 weeks from the date of receipt of the completed applications.
  • The Regional Testing Centres and the Field Testing Stations perform Testing Services for the small industries. The duration of various testing services with all relevant documents and declaration shall be completed within the time-frame as given in Annexure ‘C’ of this charter.

Responsibilities of Our Citizens

  • The citizens are expected to submit their applications completed in all respects.
  • We expect continuos feed back from citizens for the services rendered to them.

Grievance Redressal System

  • All genuine complaints may be sent to the Grievance Cell and will be settled within 15 days of their receipt.
  • If you have any complaint, you may write or telephone, fax or visit our Information and Facilitation Counter.
  • In case you are not satisfied, you may take up the matter with our Nodal Officer (Public Grievances).
